More than crude, natural gas and petroleum products flow through the miles of pipelines crisscrossing the state.

The Texas Pipeline Association has released a study conducted on its behalf by the Center for Energy Commerce at Texas Tech University that found in 2019 alone, the pipeline industry provided over $48.6 billion in economic impact, supported over 238,000 jobs, contributed an additional $29.3 billion in additional gross state product and injected over $2.7 billion in state and government revenues into the state treasury.

“We wanted to see the pure impact of the midstream industry,” Thure Cannon, president of the Texas Pipeline Association, told the Reporter-Telegram in a telephone interview. He noted that previous studies had included the impact of the upstream and downstream industries.
